Garlic

I discovered this garlic at a farmer's market.
From bulb to flower head it measured 3 feet.
My sketchbook is 9" by 12".
Some adjustments had to be made.

The Vacant Lot

I am intrigued by a recently discovered vacant lot.
All that remains, where a house once stood,
are the vestiges of a garden and opportunistic plants.
Throughout the year I will be watching what
emerges and what I discover. Right now there
are a lot of prickly plants which is fun for me.

Thistly Thistle

If I were a plant
It seems to me
This is the plant
That I would be
Often found in waysides, lanes and fields, ideally near the ocean.
Does not thrive in shade, preferring a sunny location.
Not frost tender, tolerant of strong winds.
Can be persistent and prickly.

Iris Stem

A stem of iris drawn before and after blooming, two times in the life of a plant that I find to be the most beautiful and fascinating.

Wisp blowing in the wind

When out for a walk I often find little bits of plants which I bring home to draw. They possess a certain charm and a lot of character. They appear to be delicate but they are tough little things. I admire them.
I call them wisps.
